  3. What are the Education Technology Standards (ISTE NETS), and why are they important?
ISTE stands for the International Society for Technology in Education. It is an organization that seeks to promote the integration of technology in teaching and learning. ISTE’s goal is to improve technology use in classroom by using best practices associated with learning and technology to create high-impact, sustainable, scalable and equitable learning experiences for all learners (ISTE N.D). ISTE create a set of technology learning and teaching standards for teachers, students, educational leaders’ administrators and coaches. The goal of these standards is to provide guidelines that help these individuals create and utilize the most effective technology learning environment possible. The ISTE standards have been used for over years with continual updates that reflect the latest research and technology. This helps to ensure the standards reflect the most current research, technology, knowledge and pedagogy to help the standards become and stay as relevant and effective as possible. This is vital as it aims to empower teachers and students to harnessed technology, in the most effective ways possible so that computers can do what they do best, and free up teachers and students do what they do best. These standards have been throughout the world (LcomTeam 2023).

Briefly explain the ISTE standards for teachers and students.
ISTE standards for teachers have always held the key to students’ success; but their role is changing. The ISTE standards for teachers define the new skills and pedagogical insights educators need to teach, work and learn in the digital age (ISTE Standards N.D). It’s vital that teachers give their students the opportunities to be effective when using digital tools and resources in both face to face and virtual classroom. The ISTE standards for students describe the skills and knowledge students need to thrive, grow and contribute to an increasingly digital society which include learning how to be responsible and safe understanding and employing computational thinking, effectively curating and evaluating knowledge attained digitally, and using digital tools to successfully communicate with others. Technology is undoubtedly a fixture in students’ lives. For them to use technology responsibly, safely and effectively, they need to understand the impact of technology on their lives and develop strategies for navigating the digital world (LcomTeam 2023).

    1. Great Post Kerry-Ann. In your post you briefly introduced the organization (ISTE) and their main goal. The importance of best practices when using technology in the classroom were mentioned. You spoke on the opportunities that are provided for both teachers and students in the ISTE Standards. I like the idea of highlighting the 'digital age' as that is the era that we are truly in which is dynamic. Another outstanding point in your post is the mention of children/students being fixated on technology which is undoubtedly true. Lastly, you expressed your concerns on the way in which students should utlize technology as it impacts their lives not only today but in future endeavours.

    2. Nice post Kerry- Ann, I note that you gave a quick definition of the ISTE requirements for teachers, which are designed to equip educators to teach complex ideas and technology in the classroom. Also, it encourages teachers to share ideas for engaging their students with one another. Given how far technology has come, instructors are expected to be knowledgeable about current events. They must comprehend how technology affects their life in order to use it properly, safely, and successfully. This phrase is really true because students may suffer if they are unaware of the downsides and upsides of technology.

  4. The International Society for Technology in Education is known as ISTE. It is a nonprofit organization that aims to encourage the use of technology in education. In order to develop high-impact, sustainable, scalable, and equitable learning experiences for all learners, ISTE uses best practices related to learning and technology. ISTE's mission is to advance the use of technology in schools around the world. (Team el,2022) The educator section of the ISTE Standards provides a road map to helping students become empowered learners. These standards will deepen your practice, promote peer collaboration, challenge you to rethink traditional approaches, and prepare students to drive their learning. The ISTE Standards offer the skills for learning, teaching, and leading in the digital era, offering a detailed road map for the efficient use of technology in classrooms worldwide. The ISTE Standards ensure that employing technology for learning may provide high-impact, sustainable, scalable, and equitable learning experiences for all learners. They are founded on learning science research and built on practitioner experience. (ISTE,2023)
The new generations of learners require more than just the textbook and chalkboard teaching method. They need more modern ways to keep them interested and active in teaching-learning. In using the ISTE, more hands-on activities are included, including technology (videos, games, movies, stories,)field trips, and independent learning (projects, presentations, productions). The Focus is more on student-centered learning where the students are used to drive the lessons, getting their attention and keeping them involved, using their personal experiences to help bring across the topics (where applicable). ISTE is best known for developing a set of technological learning and teaching standards for learners, facilitators, and leadership in the classroom. These standards are meant to guide those who wish to design and use the most productive technological learning environment imaginable.

  5. Ashantia, intriguing post. The ISTE Standards include capabilities for learning, teaching, and leadership in the digital era, as we all know we live in technological times where technology controls the world. Why not use it for the greater good? ISTE aims towards the use of technology in schools and throughout the world, it provides guidelines for teachers and students to follow. As you pointed out students can use technology for research and to gain relevant information on specific topics, this is known as self-directed learning where students are responsible for their own learning.

  6. “ We live in a digital age where it is necessary to both teach with technology and teach about technology.” (Mittha, 2021) The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards were developed to serve as a guide for educators who are propelled to revolutionize the pedagogical setting. Traditional teaching and learning strategies are lacking and ISTE Standards have transformed dull passive learning into engaging, creative and collaborative methods of delivering a lesson. The 21st century goals are promoted and achieved through digitizing instruction which maximizes learning by catering to all learning styles. These standards facilitate and ensure that the implementation of technology in the classroom is effective and digital citizenships are created and maintained. Teachers and students are empowered as the instructional setting has become automated and technology-driven which is innovative, accelerates good practices, and solves tough problems in education. E-learning has become a major part of the Standard Curriculum for a number of schools across a wide range of nations aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development goal #4. The most important thing to remember about ISTE and other guidelines on education technology is that they are about using technology to teach and learn more effectively, not about teaching the layout of technology.
The ISTE Standards for students aids students in discovering the perks of the digital world and develop skills in seven varying aspects that are needed to thrive in a dynamic digital environment; whether classroom, work or the wider world. ICT breaks barriers and learners are self-directed to resolve real-world problems. Researchers at AESEducation posits that ISTE-compliant teachers take an active, innovative role in the education process to help students learn more effectively. (Zook, 2021) Teachers have seven technical and structured roles set out in the ISTE standards as they “make and break” the classroom and the effectiveness of technological implementations will determine the effectiveness of the classroom manager.

  7. The NETS Standards (also known as ISTE Standards) are benchmarks for measuring the information and abilities that students must acquire to keep up with a world that is becoming more and more technologically dependent. Standards for students, instructors, and administrators are the three different categories into which the standards are divided. The purpose of these standards, according to the article titled "ISTE standards," is to offer principles that assist these people in developing and utilizing the most productive technological learning environment possible. A thorough road map for the efficient use of technology in classrooms around the world is provided by the ISTE Standards, which offer the competences for learning, teaching, and leading in the digital era.
ISTE standards for teachers are a manual for assisting students in becoming independent learners. It is understood that the educator section of the ISTE Standards provides a road map to helping students become empowered learners. These standards will deepen your practice, promote collaboration with peers, challenge you to rethink traditional approaches and prepare students to drive their own learning (ISTE, N.d). The focus of the standards for teachers is on using technology to assist student learning and creative thinking, design activities and assessments for the digital age, showcase digital work, encourage, and model digital citizenship, and participate in leadership and professional development. According to the ISTE guidelines, teachers should design and build digital age learning experiences and evaluations, as well as facilitate and encourage students' learning and creativity.

On the other hand, the ISTE standards for students outline the knowledge and skills students need to prosper, develop, and contribute to a society that is becoming more and more digital. These skills and knowledge include understanding and applying computational thinking, curating, and evaluating digitally acquired knowledge, and effectively communicating with others using digital tools. Indeed, technology is a constant in students' life.

The ISTE is a framework put in place to guide teachers who teach computer science to rethink education and create innovative learning environments.

  9. Illuminating post Ms. Watson. The aim of the ISTE is to rid the old traditional way of paper pen classroom, its aim is to infuse the usage of the computers for computer science educators so that learning can be effective and fun. We are indeed in a technological age, so it is key to take a more student-centered approach towards education and implement or integrate the usage of technology in classroom. The main goal is understood to be the provision of guidelines that will assist educators create and use the most effective technological learning environment. It helps to bridge the never-ending gap where students learning is concerned. You have to meet the student's halfway, they love technology? Give them technology! Use it to your advantage! Briefly explain the ISTE standards for teachers and students.
We live in a digital world when it is vital to teach both using and about technology. Educational technologies (EdTech) can give numerous advantages to both teachers and students. They can promote creativity and make developing and delivering adaptive and differentiated training easier. Inside and outside the classroom, digitization and automation can reduce or eliminate repetitive tasks and reduce workloads. Online sites and forums also make it easy to collaborate with other teachers and share resources on a local or worldwide scale.

However, using technology in the classroom can be difficult and time-consuming for teachers who must learn new tools and figure out what works best for a specific class, subject, or age group.
